Practical Uses
Although the Skyrian horse's agricultural role has diminished with the mechanization of agriculture, these horses have found a new place in society that will help ensure their survival. The modern Skyrian horse is a proven children's mount and ideal horse for equine assisted therapy and children's therapeutic riding.
The small size and easy-going disposition of the Skyrian horse allow for even the youngest children to ride independently. Their size and disposition also make Skyrian horses wonderful friends and companions for people with mental, psychological and emotional disabilities: they provide a comfortable introduction to horses for those who may be intimidated by larger animals.
In Franklin Levinson's own words (otherwise known as the horse whisperer): "I whole-heartedly recommend the Skyrian Horse as one of the finest, best suited, most versatile and talented horses that could be introduced into a youth horsemanship program." Skyrian horses are used in over 75% of Silva's recreational and children's lessons. To read more about our riding program, click here.
